Free puzzle-adventure game
SpinMaze is a free-to-play puzzle experience that puts you in control of spinning the level maneuvering across obstacles and collecting gold coins. In this casual game from Grumpy Carrot, you explore different locations, each harder than the last. With colorful game elements and responsive controls, this will test your precision and patience as you get from one end to another.
In terms of gameplay feel, SpinMaze feels like a massive pinball experience, with walls, obstacles, and bumpers familiar to old-school players. It has a straightforward premise and colorful visuals, much like Snake IO Slither Worm meets Hop Ball 3D.
Just like a massive pinball table
In terms of visuals, SpinMaze feels like a large pinball area. Most of the level is fenced by boxes, balls, or mine-looking objects, with bumpers and other interesting elements inside it. You control the ball by spinning the entire stage around, collecting gold coins along the way. Of course, as you move the stage, you also need to make sure that it doesn’t fall off the stage or hit traps.
Aside from the wide range of colorful elements—from gold coins to different colored mines—one interesting aspect of this app is its accurate controls and physics. The ball moves accordingly as you move the world around it, bouncing and rolling as one might expect. Similarly, the app has some responsive controls. Precise players can expect the spins to stop precisely when they lift their fingers off its intuitive touchscreen controls.
Unfortunately, this fun and simple game still requires an active internet connection in order to play. Even worse, it features frequent ads. While there are no ads that appear as you play a level, everything beyond it is frustrating. Accessing settings and getting in between levels are filled with ads, some of them unskippable. The same ads can be expected once you die and have to wait for your turn.
Casual, enjoyable, ad-filled
With its simple premise, colorful graphics, and frequent ads, SpinMaze is not that different from most gaming apps. Still, if its approach to puzzle and adventure is up your alley, having to control a ball while spinning the level in a 2D space, then it’s definitely worth a try. On the other hand, aside from the increasing difficulty, the persisting ads will also make the experience slightly inconvenient.
